At Freight Motion, we have customers who discuss various transportation issues they had in the past. We would like to share one here to raise awareness of underlying issues, market trends, and possible solutions.
One of our Company’s Core Values is Teamwork. Not just Teamwork within our company, but we extend that teamwork to our customers, drivers and carriers.
Do you know what happens after your freight is picked up?
Something we find fascinating is all of the people that work on each shipment. It really takes a village to get a shipment from point A to point B.
Example of an LTL shipment. After your product is packaged, you contact Freight Motion. Freight Motion contacts a carrier who then dispatches a driver to pick up the freight. At least four people have been involved, before pick up.
After pick up, the driver will take the freight back to a terminal where another person will unload and reload the freight onto a new truck to drive across the country. Add two more people.
Then another person will unload at the destination terminal and reload the freight onto a different truck for delivery. In addition, a dispatcher arranges the delivery schedule. Add two more people.
At delivery, someone needs to sign for the freight, so there is another person involved. Add one more, and that brings us to nine.
This is a minimum estimate as LTL typically runs through a few terminals while it moves across the country.
Other people involved include tracking, accounting and more. When looking at this on a grand scale, it can be staggering thinking about all of the people involved. It really does take a village.
